Everything in DeFi has the potential to be un-audited, made with buggy code, built to be an exit scam or you could have your funds siphoned out. Even without all these risks, a project can go stale and your tokens could end up being worthless.
Protect your private keys (password), don't click on links in emails, or texts, or DMs and never give out your seed phrase (12 word mnemonic phrase) to anyone and keep it secure at all times.
As Andreas Antonopolous says here:
NEVER store a mnemonic phrase online (not even encrypted)
NEVER type a mnemonic phrase onto any online device
ONLY enter the mnemonic phrase directly onto a hardware wallet
ONLY record the mnemonic phrase onto durable physical medium such as steel
